All I Needed was a Dead Seal

I know the title sounds funny, but it's a reference to the Frasier episode "The Seal Who Came to Dinner". If you read the rest of the blog you'll see why I reference this episode.
Ok so I know this post says I started writing it about 2 something AM.

This blog is about my yard sale. I know it hasn't happened yet... But I'd like to start this story from about 2-3 days ago. See last time I had a yard sale I realized I only sold one thing because my neighbor took pity on me or so my dad says, and aside from my dad trying to sabotage me. (like usual Wait! that should be in my rant blog) Never mind...

I thought one the reasons nobody came was that I didn't advertise very aggressively. All I had were some signs. This time I decided to post my sale on a bunch of free yard/garage sale listing sites. I think I posted at least 8 of them. I even put an ad on craigslist, but I think it got lost in the shuffle there. Just so nobody could track me down I used a fake name and phone number in the ads. Only the address was correct. After I posted the ad I started getting all these silly spam messages that said something like "Hi your yard sale looks great please come to mine.". It sort of reminded me of deviantart.

Another reason is and I'll admit this I sell junky items. I know there are a lot of yard salers out there. The ones looking for that sucker who sells some valuable thing for a penny because they don't do their research. I do/did my research. I know what will sell better online. Like when my mom told me to sell my MIB G3 My Little Ponies for $4. I could get like $7 selling them online!

Also I tend to sell a lot of small items which don't really get people's attention like something big like tires or a washing machine would.

When it's morning I have a feeling it's going to do badly. My mom really hoped I'd sell all my stuff. I didn't feel I would sell all of it, but I thought I would sell at least something. My goal was to sell 2 items. No matter if I sold all my items or none at all I decided this was my last yard sale. They aren't that successful. I'm sick of having them.

The first mishap was there was graffiti on the sidewalk in front of the house again! My dad got all worked up about this. So now he is on "graffiti patrol" again *rolls eyes*. That means more late nights of him up glaring out the window. I had mentioned this previously in The Rant Blog. I don't do "patrol" or be "on guard" anymore. He got mad at me because I wasn't "on guard". After this happened I tweeted about this. I saw the graffiti it doesn't look like a bomb. It looks like boundary graffiti.

The second thing was that my dad went shopping, and I had to wait until he came back to set up since I put my stuff at the end of the driveway to sell. I don't know he just didn't go shopping the day before?

Mishap number 3 my dad wanted to call the graffiti removal people, but they aren't open on Saturday, so he called the police instead. When he told me this it made me think about that Frasier episode. In that episode the police come to their dinner party. The Crane brothers are notorious in the show for throwing dinner parties that end in disaster. That is a running joke throughout the series. Actually I thought maybe the police would take pity on my lame yard sale, and buy something. I wasn't sure, but I could hope. So they come 2 of them in 2 separate patrol cars. They parked pretty sloppily and in the middle of the street. People were slowing down in front of my sale because the police were there. They were looking alright, but not at my sale. My dad was trying to help the police by pointing out "evidence" he found. See? Being a detective. LOL! XD The police told him the "evidence" he found wasn't really evidence. Too bad I couldn't sell anything to them.

I gave it like an hour after the police left, and nobody came so I just gave up. After my previous 2 yard sales. This one was the worst!

Preparation Day

I'm taking the day off to prepare for my yard sale. I will post about the happenings of it tomorrow. Actually this is my priority chain right now; yard sale, Ferguson taping, school registration.

Semi-successful Yard Sale

Ok so my yard sale fared a little better than the last one. My mom wanted me to use the foil paper I bought for crafts and use it on the sign. Why would I waste good foil paper on some crappy yard sale sign I’m just going to throw away?

I thought it was going to be doomed. My dad had to water the yard right before I was going to set up. He doesn’t just water he floods. That was one of the gripes I had with him when I use to have a swing set as a kid. He would water it and make it rust even more. He use to lie and say he didn’t, but I would see him do it out the window. He never lets me do anything on my own. He always has to meddle.

Remember my goal was to sell something to someone and I did! I sold 1 thing to my next door neighbor. So my goal was met! If I set my goals low then I have a better chance of accomplishing them. I wish I could’ve told that to my younger self. Sometimes I can be too Capricorn.

The funny thing is that I thought people were slowing down in their cars to look at what I was selling. Then I remembered that there is a speed bump between the house and my neighbor’s house.

I thought it was going to be like that episode of Reading Rainbow when Levar has a yard sale, and ends up not selling anything because he couldn’t find anything he wanted to sell. Or it could have been like in Arthur when D.W. sold a singing fish for $1000 at her family’s yard sale.

Oh yeah I should have been a little more prepared because I should have put an ad for my yard sale on Craigslist. I know what I’m selling. I’m not an idiot. I know there are people who go to yard sales, and see somebody selling something really cheap that could fetch a lot of money on the internet. That’s how they make money. I check what I’m selling. I know what will yield more money on the net. For some reason my mom doesn’t understand that. I’m not going to even try and compete with the people down the street who are like mega sellers. I got my own thing goin’ on. Plus for some reason bigger items (like slides and strollers) were more popular than smaller items this time.

In unrelated yard sale related news. I don’t know how I did it, but I scratched the screen of my MP3 player. It has a big gash in it, and I’m really upset. To be honest I really use to abuse my Zen player, but my Zen doesn’t have a screen.

Unsuccessful Yard Sale

Yesterday I decided to hold a yard sale.

Where I live there are really strict rules about when you can have yard sales. Where I use to live people would have yard sales like every week. There was even a house on the same block as mine that would have yard sales like every morning. It wasn’t really regulated.

I got up early and I decided to have one with the very little items I had for sale. There were not a lot of items that I had for sale because I couldn’t find all of them. I was collecting them before I moved and now they are somewhere…

One of the problems I had was that I started too late.

My dad didn’t want me selling stuff. I had this problem where I use to live. Especially since I want to get rid of my extra Pokemon toys. I have a lot. I have a copy paper box full of them. I’ve been wanting to sell them for years.

My dad told me I wasn’t pricing the items right. What does he know? Things I was selling for “cheap” were priced like that because I really don’t want to sell those online since they are heavy and will be a bitch to ship. I don’t care about shipping Pokemon toys since they are pretty light.

I set up my “stand” really close to the door which is bad because where I live now there is a long driveway. I didn’t want my dad meddling. Luckily there was a baseball game on and he wanted to watch it.

When my mom saw what I was doing she thought it was funny because I was so far from the street plus I didn't have any signs or anything. She said I looked like somebody just hanging in front of a house. We made 1 sign, and I was out there for like an hour. Nobody bought anything.

Maybe I should advertise the things I’m selling on my blog. People might be interested in some of the things I have. Some things I will only sell online because I know they won’t sell at a yard sale. Like my Knickerbocker plush puppy and my Snoopy stacking puzzle.

Today even though you are not allowed to my said she saw people having yard sales.
