Crafty Heart

While looking through old magazines I found this in an issue from 1999. The green "page me" heart looks so dated. There is a major flaw with this craft. It uses real candy hearts. There are a lot of problems with this. Candy hearts crush easily. It doesn't say to use any type of sealer or something. Wouldn't that make the craft prone to vermin?

Then I found this craft. It's a conversation hearts bracelet, but the hearts are made of clay. If those two projects are combined together the candy won't get vermin. These ones are covered in resin.

I've also been having fun going on yahoo and reading all the desperate postings of people who don't know what to buy somebody, feel worthless because they are single, and the ones desperately looking for dates. I like the really vague questions like "Does anybody know where I can buy a Valentines bear?"

I want to pose a question: at what age does Valentines Day stop being fun and turns into flaunting and desperation?

I Think I Could Make That

In the spirit of the release of Alice in Wonderland here is a blog that is semi-themed.

This is an old blog I was going to write a while ago. This happened back when I was having computer problems and such.

Actually the story starts is that the first computer was not compatible with the old printer we had. Of course this situation enrages my dad, and feels he is being scammed. The problem was than Cannon never updated the drivers for the particular model we had. Anyway we had to get a new printer. They were going to help us install it. There were a lot of problems with installing it since it wouldn’t install and it should have because they were both for Windows 7. They kept trying to do it, and it was taking a long time. My dad kept making excuses for not leaving the store or even going home because he believed he was being scammed. Aside from him saying his blanket “computer crap” statement. We had to go to the mall to wait. Of course we ended up at the Hot Topic store. Well that’s the gist of it. That story could be it’s own blog entry.

Hot Topic was selling a bunch of Alice in Wonderland stuff like shirts, costumes, accessories, bags, hats, and other stuff. They were also selling those little top hats. I was examining them to see how they were made. I know there are quite a few places online that give you tutorials on how to make your own. Those little hats were pretty expensive too.

They were also selling Hello Kitty stuff. They had these ears for sale for $8.
I know I can make my own for so much cheaper.

I did buy something (not Alice or Hello Kitty related) there, but I’ll write about that in a separate blog.

Lap Desk

Here is a review of the lap desk I received for my birthday. It is a useful item since I asked for one. I was sick of trying to balance a clip board on my lap for all these years. Plus I didn’t want a desk that was just flat on the bottom.

I like it; although the picture looks misleading. My desk seems wider. There is a drink holder, but it is really shallow. I think it’s a convenient place to store your pen caps. It has a grooved border for your pens and stuff, so they don’t roll off the desk. The surface of the desk scratches easily. The surface is not completely flat. It sort of has a diamond pattern. Do not try to shade or color on this thing unless you want a diamond pattern on your paper. The bottom is pillow like. By feeling it I think it’s filled with plastic bags and those Styrofoam beads; then there is the outer fabric cover.

Now that I have one and examined it; I want to make my own. Actually I was going to make my own after I saw a tv show about making one out of a cutting board, hot glue and a big pillow like a throw pillow. I was going to do this project when I found my hot glue gun. I still haven’t found it and it’s been over a year. I’m staring to get really pissed off. Maybe I should just break down and buy another one. Anyway my mom got mad at me and told me that was a stupid idea, and a waste of a cutting board. I found a better idea for making one. Instead of using a cutting board I’d use a clip board. It’s easier to work with and you can clip your papers to the desk while you are using them. Since my desk is filled with plastic bags and Styrofoam balls. I thought, “Why not make this a recycled craft and use those plastic shopping bags? I know people make pillows with those.” Then I remembered there was a tutorial for a pool pillow made out of old shopping bags. Sadly the website went down, and I cannot find an archive for it. I cannot find similar tutorials for it. Well I guess I could just wing it. I can even personalize it by using any kind of fabric I want.

Miscellaneous blog #8

While I was looking for a different definition in the Urban Dictionary I came across "Closet Latino". The funny thing is that a lot of people accuse me of being one of them. I'm actually not. When I tell people I'm half Mexican they tell me "Shut Up! White girl!" or even worse insults. The other problem is that my mom who is Mexican doesn't look like a stereotypical one. I'm not sure what one would look like. I guess the person would be dark, short and have straight hair. My mom is tall light skinned and has curly hair. Plus having a "white" (Scottish) last name doesn't help either.

Yesterday I wrote a tweet on Twitter about social networking being a chain reaction. Here's my tweet: "Why does it seem like social networking sites are like a chain reaction?". Then I started getting bots and internet business people following me. What I actually meant by that tweet was that like when you send a message to somebody on a social networking site you don't know what that will lead to. Like you might get annoying messages from a friend of the person you sent a message to that you never liked in the first place. That is just way too long to convey in a little tweet.

To slientbeeker I'm still working on your present. Sorry if it looks a little uh..."ghetto". I still can't find all my crafting supplies.
