Pumpkin Kutter

I have some screen caps from the old pumpkin kutter commercial. Which is also circa 1988. I begged my parents to buy me one. That thing didn't work. A kitchen knife cut better than that thing. Even if it was for children to use. As the commercial says: "It's great for kids' because it doesn't have any sharp edges." And it rusted few years later. Here is a link to an older version of the commercial. It appears to be from the early to mid 80s. I don't recall seeing it on tv back in the day. Last year I posted screen caps from the Pumpkin Light commercial.

The Price is Right had a funny 1970s theme episode. Drew had a "porn stache" and he was wearing platform shoes. Was that a nod at the show being brought back in the 1970s? At least they used some old music ques. All the audiences' and I guess cast members' costumes were provided by Party City. It would have been funny if Drew had worn one of those old 70s style suits Bob wore with the wide lapels. (which was the style at the time) At least there was not a tank top incident. I wonder what an 80s themed show would look like? I would hope the models wouldn't wear like tutus or something like that. It would be really funny if they wore pantsuits with really big shoulder pads.

I didn't do much this year and I didn't get to put my 90s girl costume to good use. Oh well.

Since Steve Jobs died the hipsters are sad. I should wear a really tacky outfit to commemorate his death. Damn I don't have any printed scarves or loafers.

I need to get out my LISA. J/K that was the only Apple product I ever used, and I used it in school. And then I thought about the Super Bowl and the wondrous ads. "Because 1984 won't be like 1984."

I feel like watching some Eureka Seven.

Jane vs Jane

The clip was of the debut of Cliff Hangers. The debut of the big wheel which looked like one of those carnival wheels. It wasn't the standard one they use today. They were 2 clips I don't recall seeing before on an anniversary special.

I had this really strange Glee dream. It really made no sense at all. I hate when I have dreams that really make no sense. But it wasn't anything surreal though.

X Factor got bad ratings. I though it would have been bigger in the US. I hate all the sob stories, just get to the singing. I fell the US version is like the spiritual successor of American Idol or at least it wanted to be. Or maybe present itself as the antithesis? I think it's funny that they have the rival sponsors. AI: AT&T, Coke and Ford. XF: Verzion, Pepsi, and Chevrolet.

Maybe I'll go back to watching survivor I haven't decided.

Community was great it reminded me of something similar that happened to me. The writers must know me or something. It was funny when Abed was saddened by the ending of the British version of cougar Town. Which made me think I would not want to see an American version of Keeping Up Appearances. I'd hate to think what American Rose would be like. Elizabeth would probably be some loudmouthed lady. (Elizabeth is quite reserved) If anybody were to remake it keep the flower themed names for the sisters.

I'm having a hard time getting use to the absence of Michael Scott in The Office.

I can't get into the new Prime Suspect. It moves way too fast. I hate Jane's hat. It bothers me. There was a joke about Scotland yard. The cases are too short they are 1 episode long. It moves too fast. They use of too much American music in the scenes for no reason. The first case is different some children saw a killing there was no George and the sex dungeon. They did keep the charity boxing event, but they cut out the girly standup comedy by the men. I wish they would have kept the part about her dad recording the wrong program. She doesn't smoke.

But I have strange preferences in tv shows.

How Much Frosting do you Choose? a Dunkaroos Review

I was only going to just write an introductory paragraph, but then it turned into more than 5.

According to the wikipedia it says Dunkaroos came out in 1988. But I don’t remember having them until the early 90s circa 1993. I remember when I first ate them they only came in 2 varieties chocolate frosting and plain vanilla frosting. Each variety both had the same graham cracker/cookies with them to dunk.

They were pretty hard to eat not physically. I was because anytime I opened a pack somebody would come out of the woodwork and try to mooch them off me. The type of kid who constantly “forgets” to bring their lunch. They only want your “good food” aka the junk food. Once it runs out or they eat it all they are off to mooch off somebody else. It wasn’t just the Dunkaroos it was also the fruit snacks and the snack cakes too. This is why I don’t eat brownies in public. Actually that could be like a little running gag I have.

The thing I didn’t get about some of those moocher kids was they would brag about their expensive shoes (which they really had) and other things they bragged about. Why couldn’t their family spare a few bucks for some snack foods?

I liked to eat them along with the cheese and bread sticks Handi-snacks. The cookies were good dipped in the cheese and the bread sticks were good dipped in the frosting. (But never the crackers or the pretzels)

They could have been part of the ultimate 90s lunch:
Kool-burst, Squeez-it, Mondo
Dunkaroos
Handi-snacks
Fruit snacks/fruit rolls
Occasionally a Gobble Stick, some cheese, snack cakes, or cookies
A lunchable was more of a treat (I rarely got these)
(A non-90s regular sandwich. Containing lettuce, meat, and mayonnaise on white bread. )

Packed in a Beauty and the Beast or Darkwing Duck lunchbox. Practically every girl in my third grade class had a Beauty and the Beast lunch box, and bunch of other girls at the school. I had to put a few stickers on mine to distinguish it from the others. Some of the girls had those lunch boxes that looked like coolers.

I was being lazy and looking for a picture of a Darkwing Duck lunchbox online, but I managed to find my own. I was looking for something else. Look! A faux retro photo. If I’m only eating that for lunch that is pretty sad. The thermos didn't yellow there was too much glare in that pic.

It was not as exotic as eating sheets of seaweed. I would trade for those. Plus there was a health food craze goin’ on in third and fourth grade. A sandwich with whole wheat bread with lots of veggies and a little bit of meat. Laughing Cow cheese. Don’t forget the 100% juice! I forget what else was included. :/

I remember when the Dunkaroos had funny shapes like feet. The cookies were really shaped like feet. There are some various commercials on youtube.

Enough nostalgic rambling. Onto the review. Since I already had these back in the 90s I sort of have an idea of what they would taste like. It smelled the same. The combination of this one is white sprinkle frosting with cinnamon cookies. The cookies were good and crunchy. They have that cinnamon taste like the old ones did. They still taste the same. The frosting texture seemed a little different from the 90s version, but I'm not sure if that was due to the heat. It was still good. It mostly tastes the same. Nostalgia factor from 1-10. 10 being highest 8. There was some leftover frosting. I ate the leftover frosting like I used to when I was a kid and scoop it out with my finger. it brought me back to 4th grade lunch! Chased it the Dunkaroos down with some Kool-aid. Squeez-its are out of production. :P

I like that Carl's Jr. turkey burger commercial. I really like the baby sitting one.

I can't believe that my mom didn't know a lot of warehouse jobs now require the workers to not just pack but deliver things as well. People want to save as much money as possible even if it costs their employees money. Especially if the business is a small business.

I decided I'm going to take me doing the opposite of things to quote Poochie the cartoon (voiced by Homer) "To the extreme!"

Since my lack of math skills has come to haunt me numerous times. I'm going to be the opposite now, so I'm going to try, and not let that bother me.

Has anybody seen that Happy Hot Dog Man commercial? It is so cheesy! It looks like it was made in the late 80s or early 90s! To me they are essentially octopus hotdogs. It's pretty much this thing in a different form. Look! there are other hot dog shapers for sale on there.

I don't know why there have been so many problems about trying to volunteer.

Monday- Forgot the place is closed on Mondays
Tuesday- Had mysterious shoulder pain
Wednesday- I was awake all night because of an animal that made it's way under the house again.

Maybe I'll just go next week instead.

I'm working on a comic about pencil sharpeners. It's not as boring it sounds. ;P

Let's Call the Easter Bunny!

I was online looking for a very specific commercial I'm looking for a 1-900 or 976 number to call the Easter Bunny and it's not the ones on youtube I saw those and none of those are the one. I'll say it aired somewhere between 86-88. It had a very effective jingle; and had the words "party", "bunny" and "fun" in the jingle. My mom recalls a cheeky girl in the commercial saying that if the kids didn't ask permission they'd get a spanking. Apparently somebody else is looking for that commercial too. (Read the comments. The commercial with the bunny painting is not the one!) I really want to find it because I called that number.

I think my nails are too long. I got one of them caught in the keyboard.

I went to the mall.

There was Glee nail polish, but none of the colors appealed to me. Strangely there was no McKinley High or Cheerios red.

They upped the amount of the Sanrio service card now it is $5 instead of $1. It'll take me forever to fill one out! I bet the prizes are still worth the same. It went from $50 to $250! I remember the old cards that were 35 spaces or $35.

There was some ok Easter candy at the candy store, but it was fresher than the stuff that's been sitting there for months. Sometimes I poke the candy with the tongs or scooper to see if it's fresh. A few months ago I bought some stale watermelon jellies.

Make a Call on the Hotline While eating a Lunchable

I'm still thinking about that list. I didn't even know what a "hotline" (#35) is my mom had to explain that. To me a "hotline" is something thought up by shady business people, and is a number you call when you want to talk to Santa or Paula Abdul.

I still don't get the prom dress one. Was it because prom dresses only came in pastels? (#13) You know my mom broke the rules in the 70s and wore a peach colored dress to a Christmas dance. Back when they called them that.

We will remember Madden as a commentator and video games presence, but not as a coach.

I was around for the introduction of the following foodstuffs. Handi-snacks, Teddy Grahams, and Lunchables. I think they all came out in the late 80s. I remember taking in a quiz in a magazine. It was supposed to date me by what I ate. But none of the Teddy Grahams based answers applied to me. When I first tried them; I didn't eat them as a parent, I didn't eat them in my first new car, I didn't eat them in high school, and I didn't eat them in single serve snack pack. I remember the introduction commercial well. I ate them while I was watching Finders Keepers. I remember when the Lunchables only had 3 items in them; the meat, cheese, and crackers. They only came in 3 varieties: baloney, butter crackers, and American cheese; ham, Swiss cheese, and butter crackers; turkey, cheddar cheese, and wheat crackers. They also came with a small napkin and a packet of Grey Poupon.

I never saw USA Cartoon Express, so I should just go in a hole and die now.

Commercial Nostalgia

This is another blog about my reporter teacher. Disclaimer: All opinions expressed about this teacher are solely my own.

I know I haven't written about her in a while I got the idea to post this blog after I told this story to my cousins and they thought it was funny.

My teacher decided to show us another outdated video. I knew it was outdated because it was about commercials and it had footage from a Pac Man cereal commercial I knew this video was pretty old if it featured footage from a commercial I use to watch back in like 1986. When I saw the footage it made me think of this article. Actually the footage wasn't easily identifiable as a Pac Man cereal commercial. You had to recognize what you were watching. I identified it because when I was a kid. I use to want a frilly 80s skirt like the girl is wearing that sits at the table in the commercial. I think I wanted the skirt more than the cereal. (appears at about 0:11 in the youtube video)I think the video might have also featured footage of the kids doing the "Pac Man". (When I was kid I use to do that dance too. Man! My mind is warped!)

There were other ways you knew the video was outdated because the statistics in it were old.
