I know I haven't written about her in a while I got the idea to post this blog after I told this story to my cousins and they thought it was funny.
My teacher decided to show us another outdated video. I knew it was outdated because it was about commercials and it had footage from a Pac Man cereal commercial I knew this video was pretty old if it featured footage from a commercial I use to watch back in like 1986. When I saw the footage it made me think of this article. Actually the footage wasn't easily identifiable as a Pac Man cereal commercial. You had to recognize what you were watching. I identified it because when I was a kid. I use to want a frilly 80s skirt like the girl is wearing that sits at the table in the commercial. I think I wanted the skirt more than the cereal. (appears at about 0:11 in the youtube video)I think the video might have also featured footage of the kids doing the "Pac Man". (When I was kid I use to do that dance too. Man! My mind is warped!)
There were other ways you knew the video was outdated because the statistics in it were old.

Gum Doesn’t Even Help
This is another blog about my reporter teacher. Disclaimer: All opinions expressed about this teacher are solely my own.
One time towards the end of the semester I had to muster up what little if any motivation to go to her class. I was growing increasing bored with each class. (Not that I wasn’t since the beginning) Before class I went to the library since I had time to waste before class. I got out my gum for class. When I get to class I see that she is not there, and the other students are waiting outside. I was mad because I had been chewing that gum for like 5 minutes. Everybody was scrambling to turn in their quizzes. I read on the board that there was a new issue of the school newspaper coming out on the next class session. I was planning to be absent on that day. She said there were 2 more issues left. She told the class she thinks Rupert Murdoch and Bill Gates are trying to take over the world.
While I was chewing gum in class I think she was getting mad at me, but I didn’t care. I was cool, calm, collected, and nonchalant. The gum sort of worked. I felt it did pass the time a little better. Maybe I should try Mentos. :P
She said her daughter is concerned with thinness. It comes from the parent and the issue of control. I learned that from Loveline. And seeing how she treats her class. I just wonder how she treats her kids and could drive them to this.
I did actually learn something relevant in class John Cena and Shakespeare have the same birthday; April 23. I thought that was an interesting little fact.
She asked me a question and I wasn’t really paying attention, and I think she could see that I just gave a blanket statement. Then she got side tracked anyway so I was saved.

The First Week
This is another blog about my reporter teacher. Disclaimer: All opinions expressed about this teacher are solely my own.
This is about my first week in her class.
I had gotten lost looking for the room because it was hidden away in a corner of the campus. I noticed a lot of the girls had their purses and backpacks with poorly sewn on patches. I don’t know why, but for some reason that really bothers me.
The first “crazy” thing I experienced in class was that the teacher wanted the book by the next class session. This is the old school way of thinking. My dad would say things like that. Like I should have the book by the first class session or the second. At that point I knew she thought about the old ways of college. A little piece of me died inside.
She also said you could use the copy at the library ,and make copies of it. I think the chapters were like 20+ pages. I wasn’t going to waste my money making copies of that.
She had also assigned the class to come back to the next class with a news item. The problem I had was that my parents told me that Kobe’s injury and fashion news (I think it was a worst dressed list) were not exactly news items.
The next class session (I had her class 3 days a week) I had listened to Kevin and Bean trying to see if I could find something, anything to report about.
The funny thing was that she accepted anything including sports and fashion news. My parents were SO WRONG. The only problem was that once somebody said something you couldn’t say the same thing. So 2 people could not report the Kobe injury story. The other problem was that she did this in the seating rows, so of course the first people she called on got their pick of the best stories. The first person reported the Kobe story. I foolishly and reluctantly held back my fashion story, and told the teacher something about neopets. Then she wanted us to write 10 news bits. That was a bit of a stretch. I wrote a summary of the Frasier episode of “The Ann Who Came to Dinner”, and about some news tidbits I heard on Kevin and Bean. I can’t believe she accepted what I wrote since she was so picky about the work she accepted.
The other thing that happened was that a lot of people didn’t get their books, so luckily she gave us until the next week to get them. The bookstore was also out of her packets, and you needed those for class.
For the next class meeting I was prepared with some news stories. In case I needed them. There was a story about a blizzard hitting the US. I could not really find any interesting. I was listening to everything on the radio trying to get some news stories for class. Most of the news that morning was about the Michael Jackson arraignment. (I know I said I would stop mentioning him, but this is relevant to the story)
The funny thing is that when I get to class. There is nothing to worry about. She’s not there! She got her husband to sub for her who was actually more interesting than her. Plus the class moved at a much faster pace than it did with her. For most of the class he talked about how much he liked books on tape, and how he would listen to them on his drive to and from work.

Media Habits
This is another blog about my reporter teacher. Disclaimer: All opinions expressed about this teacher are solely my own.
I’m writing this from memory. Most of my papers from that class have been “destroyed”. I had a fun time doing that after I found some papers from that class after I moved.
One of the first assignments she gave was a media charting project. You had to record everything you did by the minute and by the day and categorize it by media type. For example you watched 4 hours of tv on Tuesday. You also had to say what you watched, if it was on cable, PBS, or Pay per view and I also think you had to name the channel/network. There were 7 media types: television, radio, recorded music, (CDs, tapes, records, and reel to reel this is back in 2004 and I think she didn‘t really take MP3s into consideration) books, newspapers, magazines, and being online.
You also had to take inventory of stuff you had. You had to list all the magazines and newspapers your household subscribed to. You also had to say how many audio recordings you had in your household. I felt that was not representative of me because my dad has a large album collection. I think I own less than 10 vinyl albums. Back then I owned the most CDs in the house though.
When I worked on this assignment I had just gotten the No Doubt CD “Everything in Time”, so I was listening to that CD a lot. I had also gotten a few CDS for my birthday that were in high rotation including an (English) Beat one. The bulk of my CD listening time was devoted to No Doubt CDs.
Even though I do not have the paper I could pretty much summarize what I did back in February of 2004. I mostly listened to the CD “Everything in Time”. I would listen to KROQ a lot especially in the morning on the ride to school I would listen to Kevin and Bean. I did watch some shows on PBS, but they were mostly kids’ shows like Arthur and Zoom. It’s not like I was trying to look like an intellectual or anything. The only book reading I did was for my classes. The only newspaper reading I did was read the Sunday comics for like 10 minutes. I spent most of my time online on neopets.
My dad told me to lie on the assignment because he said I shouldn’t write that I watch such childish shows like shows on PBS Kids and Saturday Morning cartoons. Here are some of the shows I think I watched back then. Most of these listed I’m going from memory. Kirby, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Sonic X, Arthur, Zoom, Berestain Bears, Mucha Lucha, Xaiolin Showdown, MegaMan NT Warrior, Cubix, Shaman King, and Fillmore. You know that’s why I hated telling him what my assignments were because most of the time he would try and take over, or badly misinterpret them. His misinterpretation was that I charted my media habits, and then read them aloud to the class. I never mentioned anything about reading the results aloud. I have no idea where he even got that from. I even wrote on my assignment that he said that. I think the teacher’s comment was something like “I hope you were truthful on this part”.
The funny thing was that when I finally got the paper back from her at the end of the semester. There were all these funny comments written on it. She wanted to know why I thought people would think I’m dumb because of my reading habits. She also wanted to know if I was interested in a job in advertising. She also wanted me to do a project about when my family was a Neilson family for a week.

Education is Important… For me to Poop on!
After watching The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien I felt inspired to post this.
This is another blog about my reporter teacher. Disclaimer: All opinions expressed about this teacher are solely my own.
The way my teacher treated us was with a high school mentality. She wanted all of the class to fill out some application for a scholarship. She spent most of that class session preaching about when you are at a community college that you have to do a bunch of activities and stuff to make yourself look good. Sometimes it’s important to look good, but to me not in a situation like this.
She also said education is more important that money. Huh? WTF?! It could be to some degree, but how are you going to pay for it? Would you just end up being a poor scholar? Is that an oxymoron?
It was funny because she would pass out these quizzes about things that happened during the week. They were poorly pasted together. Sometimes the questions on the quiz would face sideways. She would also paste some pictures to go along with the quiz. I have no idea why. Perhaps something to look at while you are taking the quiz? Anyway this particular week she had a question on it about Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, and she also put a picture of him on the quiz. So I thought it would be funny to draw a little speech bubble and write “For me to poop on!” inside it. I had a lot of fun doing that. The only problem was that I mistakenly wrote it in pen! Non-erasable pen. I don’t know why, but for some reason she wanted back the photocopies back of the quiz she passed out. I mean how could you save it and cheat off it next semester? It was about current events?! For some reason she also didn’t want you writing on them.

Newspaper Promotion and Distribution
This is another blog about my reporter teacher. Disclaimer: All opinions expressed about this teacher are solely my own.
One of the worst things about her class was that she wanted us to pass out copies of the school newspaper.
I did not want to do this for a number of reasons: I was not working for the school newspaper, I was not getting paid to do this, and it just seems silly to hand out a school newspaper to some random person.
She wanted us to hand them out because according to her communications students are out going. Ok…-_- Not me!
She also went overboard with it. She wanted each person to pass out 5 copies of the school newspaper. When the class started there was like 30-40 people in there. That is like; let’s see. I’ll just use 30 to make it simple 5x30=150. 150?! I never really thought about it now until I crunched the numbers. So in her mind about 150 newspapers would have been distributed in an ideal world.
It was funny because every time a new issue would come out and she would hand out her 5 per person at the end of class the room was littered with newspapers. I remember one time some of the students were having a conversation about what they do with the extra papers. One girl said that she kept the papers in her car. Another person said that they put the papers back in the boxes. I use to just leave them in the basket under the desk.
She wanted us to pass them out to everybody. Her thought was since the newspaper is from a community college the whole community reads it and not just students. I remember her telling us to give the newspapers to our parents and siblings who did not attend the school, and tell them to write a letter to the editor. She really wanted anybody to write a letter to the editor. I mean every time a new issue would come out she would write the address to the editor (I think snail and email) on the board.
The story she told the class was that they didn’t pay the people who painted the boxes. They were not allowed to put the news papers in those boxes. That’s why we had to pass them out.
The strange thing was that when we covered the chapter about journalism in the book she did not try to promote the school newspaper. That puzzled me.
She was also very concerned about a conference for students who worked on the school newspaper. It took place during spring break, and the people who went had to go with her… In the weeks leading up to the conference she would tell the class about projects that they could submit if you were not part of the newspaper staff. She would talk about this conference for the bulk of the class time. For her being a reporter/teacher she did not know how to manage her time very well in class. She even spent the bulk of a class session talking about the website for that conference, and pulled it up as the class was taking a test. It distracted me because the website was so loud. She even signed up some people from my class for an activity without their consent. She handed out a clipping about that conference to the whole class. (she liked handing out clippings in general) When I returned from break back to her class (which I was dreading to go to because I knew she would just talk incessantly about that conference) there was a sign that the teacher posted on the door of her classroom congratulating the people who went, and she decorated it with stickers. She said that the website for the school newspaper won an award. She said it won because she drove us to it; I’d say more like held hostage.
The newspaper came out every two weeks, so after a while I started calculating every two weeks, and I would be conveniently absent on those days. It usually worked.
She wanted to recruit students to work for the school newspaper, so badly she promoted the summer classes she was teaching. She also wanted students to recruit students to the school.
Towards the end of the year one week she came to class, but she didn’t have that many newspapers with her. She ended up giving one per person. Usually when people in class received the papers they would start reading them. This time I didn’t even notice I received a copy because I was too busy doodling a picture of a Care Bear. Somebody (not me) pointed out to the teacher that a caption was wrong on a picture. The funny thing was this was on the front page. Most of the class thought the wrong caption was funny. The teacher was so embarrassed, and said she couldn’t help the newspaper staffers. I was skeptical about this because of her controlling personality.
It was funny because one time when I was at school. I think I was already out of her class by then I saw her with a dolly full of stacks of school newspapers There was a box of school newspapers, and it was pretty full. Then she takes a big stack of papers off her dolly and crams them into the box. This was a hilarious sight.
She was just too self promoting. Maybe that’s why I’m so turned off on self promotion.
Recently I found out through a little research that she made an invalid contract with the painter of the newspaper storage boxes. She went over somebody’s head. Somebody in her position was not allowed to make contracts. This is why she had the class distribute newspapers.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Price Guide
This is another blog about my reporter teacher. Disclaimer: All opinions expressed about this teacher are solely my own.
For the magazine chapter of the book my teacher decides to give the class an assignment to bring in a magazine for niche audience into class. Her assignment requirements were to either bring in an English language niche magazine or a foreign magazine like the Italian version of Vogue.
The problem with this assignment was that she gave it to us on a Friday, and expected us to have a magazine in class by Monday. I didn’t want to use a magazine I had at home since I felt they were general interest magazines.
It was Sunday and I still hadn’t gotten a magazine. My dad told me to buy a Lowrider magazine, but I wanted to spend money on something I wouldn't read later. I’m not into lowriders.
My mom took me to the Sav-on to get a magazine. I really wanted to get a wrestling magazine, but they didn’t have any. Instead I bought a Yu-Gi-Oh! price guide. That magazine set me back $6!
My dad told me I should have gotten something else because everybody would make fun of me because I brought a Yu-Gi-Oh! price guide to class.
I remember that in the beginning of class people were complaining that they couldn’t find a magazine, and that she should have given us more time. One person said they just bought some magazine they found for sale at the bookstore. I think it was a magazine about dogs.
You had to go up to the front of the class and explain who the target audience was. I had a hard time doing that. I mean wouldn’t it be anime fans, Yu-Gi-Oh! fans, people who play the card game, and collectors/buyers/sellers?
When a Japanese student brought in a Japanese fashion magazine the teacher got so excited about it. A lot of people brought very general magazines like Playboy, Maxium, and YM. Two people brought in magazines similar to mine. One person brought in a comic collector one, and somebody presented a gaming one.
When I saw The Simpsons “Margical History Tour” episode. It made me think about the Yu-Gi-Oh! price guide I bought for class.
Maybe I should write a blog about the balding Yu-Gi-Oh! enthusiast, or about the silly bootleg Yu-Gi-Oh! comic I have.

Biased Assignment
This is another blog about my reporter teacher. Disclaimer: All opinions expressed about this teacher are solely my own.
So for one assignment for her class during the Internet/computers chapter of the book we had to meet up at the school’s computer lab to do the assignment.
It was a trap!
Everybody in the class was “required” AKA forced to write a review of the school newspaper’s website. When she announced that to the class a girl sitting 3 seats away from me made a sour face. I was tempted to write in my review that I shouldn’t be forced to review it, and that it is shameless self promotion.
I was funny when I overheard her tell some other student that the ABC (network) website was just one big ad.
Anyway she got mad at me because I used the word “boring” too much. I just wanted to hurry up and finish the work. She had a habit of assigning more work than you could complete. This is what she wrote on my paper regarding me overusing the word “boring”: “Never use the word ‘boring’-it is a reflection on the viewer and says nothing specific about the topic.” LOL! If “boring” wasn‘t to be used it would not be a word right? It is in the dictionary the last time I checked. I forgot to add that she underlined the words "viewer" and "says nothing" in her comment. I don't know how to use the underline feature. Does Blogger even have one?
I guess she was also pissed that I gave the school newspaper’s website a “3” (you had to rate the websites on a scale from 1-10) I was pissed about being forced to review it. I mean it was the first website you had to review. I mean you would want people to not be forced to review something because it could skew their opinion of it.
The funny thing is that the paper she handed out with the directions for the assignment said to use the words “flashy”, “practical”, “annoying”, and “user friendly”. What’s the difference between those words and the word “boring”?
I remembered when the work wasn’t the way she wanted I panicked. She was so picky about the way her work had to be formatted.

Deranged Reporter Teacher
Enough about celebrity deaths for now. unless somebody "shocking" dies. Someone who I consider shocking. These are celebrities whose death came to me in a dream. At the time of posting they are not dead. I only had 3; Regis Philbin, Paul Rubens AKA Pee Wee Herman, and Hardcore Bob Howard (he's a wrestler).
I'm going to talk about the death of something else; my aspiration to be a reporter.
Disclaimer: All opinions expressed about this teacher are solely my own.
Remember I mentioned her in a previous blog? Well I thought I’d give some background to being in her class and such since the last blog I wrote about her and her and her class was pretty vague.
Let’s see how can I describe her in a “nice” way? I’m not really sure how. I’m not even being vengeful or catty about this. At first when I took her class I thought it was just me who didn’t like her. I mean you can always have personality clashes with teachers. You know your friend and you can have the same teacher and you love them and think they are great and your friend thinks they are the most evil teacher in the world. I remember one time before class when she wasn’t there I was having a conversation with other student in the class, and they hated her too. I was happy it wasn’t just me.
Here’s how I ended up taking her class. At my first semester at that school, I was going to name it, but that was too easy. But if you know me and where I went to school you can figure it out. You might even figure out who I’m writing about, by not even mentioning her name. Since I had just come there and had no seniority I ended up taking one of the classes that was still available; a film history class. It was either that or a Toyota mechanic class. I’m not sure if I was up to fixing a Toyota. Anyway I took the film history class and loved it and my teacher too. She told us she also taught a Mass Media and Society class. The other students to who took both her classes said they were great. I heard all you did in there was watch Tarantino movies and write papers on them. That sounded cool, so I decided I would take her class next semester. Since I was still a new student to the school I got a bad registration date, by the time I could sign up for her class it was full. I thought “How bad would it be if I took the same class taught by another teacher?”
BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!
This was before myspace had that rate your professor/teacher feature. I didn’t even have a myspace back then. I didn’t know about the stand alone site either. I wasn’t smart enough back then to do my research. The funny thing is that on the myspace version and on the stand alone site. She gets bad ratings. Those rating sites can be very helpful. I learned about the quirky way my science teacher did her tests. I don’t sign up for classes without reading them anymore.
Let’s see… About her… She uses a lot of outdated material I mean really outdated like from the mid 80s to early 90s. The funny thing is that she makes a note of saying on the special note taking papers she make up especially for her class not to judge the video based on the date. She tired to cover her ass in all areas.
That lady wasted a lot of paper. She had so many printouts of articles she wanted us to read and stuff. She would fill up a whole big table with stacks of different papers and articles she wanted us to read.
Here is a funny “quirk” I heard about her. One of my other teachers told the class that she did not let her kids watch tv until they were 12. She wanted them to be readers.
She also would talk about how much she liked NPR. She would always talk about how much she hated commercial radio. I listened to NPR a few times. Most of the time I’ve listened to it the programs that were on were “boring”. Oops! :0 :# I shouldn’t be using that word. :P ;)
I guess being in her class was not all bad. Because I was in her class she essentially turned me into a Cena fan. Um…take that for what it is. I use to spend most of my time in class writing in my diary, doodling, and writing Cena-esque freestyles. I also produced a lot of neopets fan art in that class. I was so into neopets in 2004.
I'm going to talk about the death of something else; my aspiration to be a reporter.

After thinking about what to write I got inspired by somebody. :P
I got inspired to write about a demented reporter teacher I had back in '04. Back then I wasn't blogging anywhere. Well on diaryland, but I didn't write much there. Plus I started blogging on diaryland after I completed the class. I did have my paper diary though.
If I do start writing about this teacher I will need to do extensive research and delve into my archives. Of course if I do start blogging about her I'll give a little background and such like how I ended up in the class and such. Seriously I am not a loss for material from my "adventures" in her class.
The funny thing is that I would make a bunch of references to her in my old myspace blogs, but I never mentioned taking her class and all that was involved with it.
So watch this blog! Oh yeah if anybody has feedback on this subject like you had said teacher, or just want to read some anecdote about the class post them!
