Harajuku Hamburger

I had to help the lackey at the supermarket deli measure a 1/6th of a pound. This is what I'm talking about some lackey who can't convert measurements has a job in a supermarket deli, and I don't? I stopped caring anymore and will do most anything for money. I've dropped my standards, morals, and dignity. It's really desperate and sad now. Nobody realizes how desperate I am not my parents, not potential employers, not people providing services in a community setting. NOBODY! Plus seasonal hiring is over, and I missed it! And I'm moving which adds more insult to try and finding a job.

Which leads me to another story I decided to try Jarlsberg cheese. I wanted to because Shirley likes it. I didn't like it. Well i ate it plain. It might taste different in a sandwich. I'm not big on Muse either.

I saw the commercial for Gwen's HL line at target. At first I thought it was a commercial for hamburgers. But then I heard the song "Harajuku Girls" play, and I thought "What a strange song to use to promote hamburgers"

Note to Gwen: If you ever do make a hamburger for a restaurant I'd buy one (I have a great name for it "A Little Something Refreshing")

Fashion Anthem Comeback

When Will mentioned anthems on Glee the first song that came to mind was Good Charlotte's "The Anthem". I had my own Brittany fashion moment. Once when I was like 19 I bought leg warmers because I thought they were arm warmers. In my defense it was at a Hot Topic store and they were on sale. When I got them home I realized there were no thumb holes and, then I read the label they were leg warmers. I only wore them a few times. I think they snagged on my boots. It was funny when Brittany said she didn't know if it was summer or not because she didn't know how to read a calendar. It reminded me of when I was in 4th grade and some girl told me to always wear shorts when the sun is out. Until my mom mentioned that the sun can be out on snowy days!

Rachel trying to start a trend was so funny! A similar thing happened to me. I'm convinced that I started the Pokemon t-shirt trend at my high school. Like Rachel it didn't catch on until cheerleaders started to wear them. I didn't convince a cheerleader to wear the look.

Have you seen Watson? My dad complaining about not being able to see it because ABC 7 was having technical difficulties.

I saw Gwen's hair dye commercial it has trite song references. It was ok, but it could be better. I mean "Rocksteady shine." Come on! *groans* I could have written a better script for Gwen.

Journey to Adulthood

I'm still very worried about dressing like an adult. I don't want to be one of those women who dress badly and get laughed at behind their backs. Maybe that is already happening by the way I dress now.

I'm getting rid of all my nerd culture clothes.

Over the years I've been a bad dresser ever since I can remember. Maybe when I was a baby I didn't dress badly. I went through many phases. Punky Brewster: pigtails and vests, Pacifier: I constantly wore one of those pink plastic pacifiers on a necklace, Kimberly the Pink Ranger: I wore pink clothes and brown boots, I wanted to dress like Gwen in this picture:
Here is an excerpt from a story I was working on for my memoir class that I didn't finish. It was about the way I dressed and other stylish girls in my grade.

"As a kid I hated the way I dressed. For a lot of years I dressed too childish. By third grade I had grown out of those frilly dresses with the matching white tights and white patent leather Mary Jane shoes. When I started school there because of the year round schedule it was still summer, so I had to get new summer clothes for school. My clothes were usually basic, but coordinated; whatever Sears had to offer in kids clothes. I couldn’t wait until I could wear the cool clothes in the juniors section. Those were the cool clothes the teenagers wore. I had all these wild printed shorts and coordinating tank tops. Some of the pairs of shorts were made to look like boxer shorts; they had a faux fly. The shorts were very garish with bright neon colors. One pair had fuchsia palm trees printed on them with a sunset scene"

I think my style guides will be the fictional characters Blair Waldorf and Emma Pillsbury. I love the way they dress, so polished.

Pre-"Tragic Kingdom" Gwen wear cheerleader outfits or overalls. "Trapped in a Box" would also work or even a conductor uniform.
"Tragic Kingdom" Gwen wear crop tops and bondage pants or any outfit she wore in a video from that era
"Return of Saturn" Gwen have pink hair! Skirt pants, "X" tanktops and lots of eyeliner. or any video from that era
"Rocksteady" Gwen long blond hair, "Rock" and "Steady" rings. Show your underwear band. For a sexy costume I recommend the "Underneath it All" video
"L.A.M.B." Gwen wear an Alice in Wonderland dress or a majorette uniform
"The Sweet Escape" Gwen wear something from the "Wind it Up" video
You could also dress as Gwen from their latest tour with a white shirt and black pants. Or dress as singles collection Gwen. Or even Gwen from the "It's My Life" video. Or even "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" or "Southside". (bonus points if you lick somebody's bald head.)

Miscellaneous blog #37

Watched Fashion's night out yesterday night. Too bad Gwen wasn't in it much. Good thing Letterman was on vacation or he probably would have bitched about that.

UTB is showing a new drama and replacing the 10PM anime :( They are showing Keitaideka Zenigata Ai. If they show 6 of the different series that will be 183 episodes. There is a 7th series that has 13 episodes. Plus those episodes will make 196. I'm not sure if there is an 8th series or more. There is not much on this series. When I first read the title I thought it had something to do with the Lupin character.

Congrats to Tony Kanal! He and Erin are having a baby. He is the last member of the band to have a kid (core 4 members). I wonder if he will have a boy? Everybody else in the band has a boy.

I'm still really suspicious about my dad being enthusiastic about the comic book festival this weekend. Maybe he is going to try and sell his sports cards or something.

Saw the new season of Survivor. Tip #1 don't talk over Jeff. It's better to keep to yourself than to blather on at tribal council. "Fabio" was hilarious. He sort of remind me of Toast from Histeria or maybe that Eek the cat cartoon that Fabio guest starred in. I was just waiting for Jimmy Johnson to sell me some man pills or something. I was raised not to like the Cowboys. Especially since a lot of football fans in LA became Cowboys fans after the Rams and Raiders left. His name is common. Some people were confusing him with the race car driver. It would have been like my James Brown dilemma which coincidentally involved a football commentator. Too bad some of the older and younger people from my last class could have been on the show. I'm sure the popular guy would have entranced a few without him knowing it.

Happy Anniversary I’m Climbing Scaffolding!

Ok so I was going to write this anniversary, but there were a lot of problems. First of all my internet connection is acting really strange. So don't be alarmed if I go missing. Oh yeah I decided not to blog about what happened in class today even if there is a funny antidote that goes with it. I'll post it tomorrow or possibly in the leftovers blog.

I never finished the blog. A lot of stuff came up. This is how much of it I wrote. It's a really long story.

"Today is the 10 year anniversary of me going to my first No Doubt concert!

This is one of my 'retired stories'. I tell it too much.

It was a strange trip. It all started the week before when I was listening to the KROQ Music News. Do they still play those segments anymore? Anyway they said that if you bought a copy of 'Return of Saturn' at the Costa Mesa Virgin Megastore you could see a free No Doubt show. I reveled at the thought of this. I had been so desperate to see No Doubt for all those years.

At first I was trying to plot alone, but the excitement overcame me and I blabbed about it to my mom."

Well anyway here's the gist of it. So I convince my parents to let me go to the midnight CD release with my dad. I could go on one condition I had to keep up with school and not be grouchy due to lack of sleep. We waited like all night. We got home at like 3AM. I was suppose to be doing "important" things at school like being worried about standardized testing, and assignments and other boring stuff like that. I was being a "bad" student not caring about school. I usually care about too much anyway. It was nice to be bad and have a break. Anyway I studied really hard. I mean the "Return of Saturn" CD. I had like 2 days to learn it. One thing did happen. I found my new favorite No Doubt song; "Staring Problem".

Ok so on the night of the show I'm scared because I didn't know how I would react to seeing No Doubt in person. I thought I was either going to cry or throw up. Luckily neither of those happened. I was just really excited. I didn't really know what to wear so I wore one of my No Doubt shirts. I also wore my platform Skechers hoping I could get a better view of the band. The one thing that disappointed me was that Gwen looked shorter in person. Other than that it was a great show! They even played my favorite No Doubt song! "Staring Problem". Well I thought I requested it, but maybe they had a set list... Towards the end of the show Gwen climbed the scaffolding and was singing while holding onto it. Whenever I see Gwen climb scaffolding it makes me think about that show and makes me nostalgic. And of course I used that story as material for that story writing project I did in 10th grade.

Celebrity Appeal

It was funny in my sales class because we had to do a skit to sell something. It reminded me of my old French class. In French class we had to do a skit, and sell something. Luckily for my sales class the teacher brought products. In French class we had to use what we had/was on us. I used a bracelet I happened to be wearing. I remember saying in French "the jewelry like Gwen Stefani wears", or something like that. The bracelet did look like something Gwen would wear. I performed the skit and laughed the whole time like I always would, and people want to know why I'm a Jimmy Fallon fan.

Back to my sales class we had to work in groups, and one of the guys in the group said he didn't want to do the skit because he would be laughing the whole time. Which would have made 2 of us. Then I started thinking about Jimmy Fallon. The skit we did in class wasn't too bad. I didn't laugh through the whole thing, and neither did the other guy.

Speaking of winning contests from a tv station. I won something from a contest too. I won something from UTB digital 18.2. It was kind of funny how I entered it. The commercials ran for it last month back when my old computer broke, and I was in between computers. I think I sent the email on the computer tower we had for like 2 days. I remember the theme for it was "awards shows". Each of the contests have a theme like Mother's Day or Halloween. Usually the prizes don't really interest me. The Halloween contest did, but I forgot to enter. :(

When I came home from school I found a mysterious package. My dad thought I ordered more books for some reason, but I didn't. The rest of my books came yesterday. I thought it might have been a package that my grandma had shipped. The strange thing was it had my name on it. My dad is incredibly nosy and had to know what I received. As I felt the package it felt "boxy". He insisted that I open it in front of him. He was trying to open it until I nabbed it away from him.

I saw the box said "Charlie Lapson", and then I remembered what is was. I opened the box to find a clutch wallet thing. I really wanted the A-frame bag, but the clutch wallet thing is nice too. Really glamorous. It was free, so I can't be picky. Besides the A-frame bag and the wallet clutch thing some of the other prizes were a watch and a luggage tag. There might have been another one, but I'm writing this from memory. I sort of regret not entering the Halloween giveaway last year, but I'm not going to get cynical. :P I shouldn't enter anymore contests held by that tv station just to give other people a chance.

Steal This Blog!

I was up late fretting about my story for my memoir class. I've been working on it on and off since late Friday/early Saturday morning. For some reason I've been stressing out about writing it. I've been having celebrity dis dreams. I always have those when I'm stressed. For some reason the song Garbage song "Soldier Through This" has been playing in my dreams.

I want to address 2 things before I get into the meat of the blog. First I know some people were mad about Gwen Stefani being made fun of on Saturday Night Live in the "We Are the World 3" skit. Actually I though the impersonation was spot on. The singing voice was great. I'm not sure which Gwen era she was suppose to be though. Her outfit looked like a mix of different eras. It confused me a little, but easily recognizable as Gwen.

Second thing; I was going to blog about how I was looking for a new phone, and what a hard time I had. I ended up falling asleep, and forgot to write the blog. By the time I woke up it was already midnight.

Nothing particularly interesting happened to me today at school. The only thing interesting I saw was a guy who got on the bus wearing an Eddie Guerrero shirt. I just thought that was worth posting.

Leftovers

I did not put them in a jar. A little No Doubt reference for you. ;)

Actually I over looked my last few blogs and there were a few things I forgot to mention. So here they are in this leftovers blog.

Here are some of the things I forgot to mention. Ok, on Monday my dad was getting mad and needed constant tech support to use the printer. I still can’t stand the sight of it, but I needed to get ready for my first day of school. I didn’t have time to bother with his computer illiteracy antics. Luckily I ignored him and he just stopped bothering me.

I was so sick of him complaining about all the rules at his school. I told him “Just shut up and go to school”. I mean really?

I noticed that on Wednesday and Thursday the massive crowds at school seemed to thin out. Maybe the people who wanted classes couldn't add them?

I forgot to mention that I’m trying to come up with stories for my class. Anyway you are suppose to get ideas from anywhere, and I got an idea from a story by hearing none other than the song “Sunday Morning” by No Doubt. It was like I was suppose to hear that song. That song has a lot of memories attached to it including a lot of funny stories. Then I remembered that crappy novel I wrote back then that I could use for a source. A lot of those stories just need to be cleaned up. That will be less work for me if the stories are somewhat out there. They should really be typed though.

I've still be trying to figure out why I can't force myself to post on that board, and it sort of came to me while I was on Shirley's facebook page. I post things on her page all the time, and most of the time they are pretty inane things. I thought "Why?". Maybe it's because I'm in similar company with the darklings? Sorry if this sounds repetitive here. I guess I'm just trying to get my thoughts out or something.

Aside from still trying to get myself to post on the board. We have make something artsy that shows off your personality and bring it to the next class session. I guess there is a use for all those pictures that I've been saving for something...

Speaking No Doubt I've been thinking about Gwen lately. I had this really funny dream about her this morning.

You know my dad still doesn't know how to flag an email on yahoo. I have to show him like every time.

Personal Journey

Ok, ok I feel I need go on a personal journey. I don't mean that I need to go on a "mission" where I solicit religion to people at their door and might possibly get shot or be greeted by men who can't "keep the mouse in the house".

I thought about these lyrics from the Gwen Stefani song "What are you Waiting for?":

I need to do something out of character. I mean really out of character and not something like talking to a girl with cool hair or buying purple shoes.

Birthday Salt

My birthday wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. As my high school reunion and 30 approach me at creeping rate for now. Like I've said before as long as I don't get harassed by anybody it's a good birthday. Because of that a lot of people think I don't like birthdays, but I really do. I just like to be low key about it.

I ate at The Shrimp House. This is a good place if you are not opposed to "sea meats" or fried foods. I like both, so it's a good. Aside from the shrimp: I recommend the crab cakes, scallops and the New England Clam chowder. The scallops are quite large and juicy, and the crab cakes are flavorful, but not spicy. I just want to say I do not work for this place. The bad thing was that at the restaurant my dad spilled salt on the table. I did not want to have an unlucky birthday, so I threw some over my shoulder just to be safe.

Aside from the unlucky happening my dad also doesn't understand the concept of email mailing lists. Let me explain this better. I mean like when you sign up for them offline. For some strange reason he thinks you have the company or whatever give you their address. I mean I'm 26 and he was helicoptering me while I filled out the mailing list form at the restaurant! >:(

Well at least I didn't print out a bunch of mass email birthday greetings. *sigh*

I got some Harajuku Lovers fragrance. I got the "G" scent. That is the Gwen one. I still haven't opened it though.

A Decade of Fashion

There were a lot of different fashion trends this decade. Early in the decade it started off with a lot of carry over from the late 90s. I wonder what will carry on into the next decade?

Avril look
Back when she was “punk”. When she use to wear ties and tank tops. Don’t forget the heavy black eyeliner and black nail polish.

Arm warmers
These were popularized by Avril. I think? But they aren’t totally “Avril”. I think they are cute. Wait doesn’t Jeff Hardy wear them too? Or he use to.

The western look
This look was popularized by Madonna. You know with the cowboy hats, big belt buckles and the low rise pants.

Low rise pants
I thought I’d group this with the western look although not all low rise pants are western inspired. I’ll admit I’ve worn my pants too low and I cracked a bit. There was a time where you couldn’t go anywhere without seeing somebody’s butt crack. You might need some aspray. (This is a real item!) I sort of liked this trend because I don’t like high waisted pants. I haven’t worn high waisted pants since about 1997. Low waisted pants are good if you have a big gut so you can wear them low and let you gut hang over the pants. Let you gut break free and do its own thing! (Muffin top!)

Skechers Energy shoes
A lot of people love this style of shoe. I thought they were so ugly! They looked like the running shoes my dad wears. Those shoes are really more about style than exercise. Everybody wore them! Boys and girls. Maybe that’s another reason why I was so annoyed by them. I’m not sure if there was only one color available in the area, but it seemed like all the girls wore the ones with the light blue stripe.

Pink hair
Look! I blatantly put this picture of Gwen Stefani in my blog! Pink hair was a trend in the early 2000s. Not just Gwen had pink hair there were other celebrities who had pink hair too. Pink hair was really popular at my high school.

Flipped hair
This was more popular earlier in the decade. Hair was very flippy or feathered.

Velour sweat suits
These were not flattering to everyone. When ever I see somebody wearing them it usually makes their ass look really jiggly in bad way. Velour is not a forgiving material. Is draping your self in it socially acceptable? When I see them it just gives me a metal snap shot circa 2004/2005 of a girl wearing the suit with her designer purse with her ipod mini and razr phone, and possibly having some frosted streaks in her hair.

Designer bags (real or knockoff)
Everybody had to have one real or fake. If you couldn’t afford the real thing you could go to the swap meat or someplace similar that sold the fakes or even the internet.

Uggs and similar boots
I never really got into that trend. I was thinking about buying some knockoff ones. I never did because I knew my dad would tease me mercilessly if I did.

Crocs and similar shoes
Jelly’s ugly cousin; or so they say. I’d rather wear a jelly shoes than a pair of crocs. Maybe it’s just because jelly makes me feel nostalgic. I was considering buying a knockoff pair of crocs, but I realized how ugly they look and decided not to.

grillz
I really never saw the point of this trend. I guess it was like having gold/silver you could take out.

Bling
Everybody was into that trend even Barbie. These dolls are the My Scene My Bling Bling line. They came with jewelry.
I’ve always hated that word. I don’t think I’ve really ever used it. Maybe I might have said “phone bling”. It’s like the words “swagga/swagger/swag”.

Side bangs
Here I am blatantly putting a picture of Shirley Manson in my blog. Actually it belongs in this one. Everybody wore side bangs this decade including her. But they don’t look bad on her. I’m not just saying this because I like her. They are flattering to her. There are a lot of people who wear side bangs who really shouldn’t. Like me they make my cheeks look really fat.

Flats
I like this trend. I don’t like stilettos or platforms. I can’t wear them very well because of my weak ankles, and height complex. I think flats are more comfortable than “frumpy” like some people say they are. They put less stress on the calves.

Skinny jeans
Another 80s revival. This look was not for everyone although it seemed like everyone or pretty much everyone was wearing them. Some jeans were way too skinny and looked painted on. Sometimes they were so tight you could see the shape of the items in the person’s pockets.

60s style
Ever since the show Mad Men became popular people have been wearing 60s inspired things including their clothes and hair. It’s the 20 40 rule. Everything that was popular 20 years ago (80s style) or 40 years ago (60s style) come back in style.

80s revival
There were the skinny jeans (which I already wrote about), neon/day-glo colors and paint splatter. I loved wearing neon colors and paint splatter clothes back in the 80s. I use to have a neon paint splatter denim skirt when I was 4 or 5. I didn’t really embrace this trend this time it came around. I do like neon socks with black flats. I think that looks really cute.

Big hair
Because of the 60s and 80s fashion revivals, and scene big hair was everywhere. I mean if it wasn’t popular Bumpits would not have been invented.

Leggings This is an 80s revival item. They are not pants! So don’t wear them like that! I admit I committed a fashion crime like that back in the early 90s. (They were still popular back then, and I was like 6) I’m not sure if the same rules apply for the cotton ones though. I’m really confused! @.@

Scene
I don’t know who popularized this look, but it needs to go away! I wonder what people will think who embraced this style and then look back at photos of themselves like 10 years from now.

Coon hair
I think this type of dye job is just ugly. It looks like a raccoon sat on your head. Do you think you could cheat by attaching the tail of a coonskin cap to your hair?

Over sized sunglasses
These things could almost double for goggles. Sometimes they were just so large they looked like those giant clown glasses or something Elton John would wear. They look ok on some people if they are not outrageously large. They offset fat cheeks.

Slutty Halloween costumes
This trend started around back in about 2002. Pretty soon by like 2004 you could only find slutty Halloween costumes. I’m not going to divulge more into this topic since I already wrote like 4 blogs about the subject.

Crystal Tattoos
I thought this trend was kind of dumb. Most of the time I’d see people wearing these and usually the stones would be falling off.

Gladiator sandals
These came back. I think they were popular in the 70s? They came in many styles including ones with convertible straps, metallic straps and the long straps that wrapped all the way up your calves.

Graphic tees
I still wear these. I’m not trying to be trendy. They are like my thing. I get the cheap ones at the department store and stuff. I don’t like to pay a lot for them. They usually have some kind of witty saying or character on them.
There are also generic graphic tees. You know the ones that say something like “Tiger’s softball” and the graphic is distressed; there is usually a picture of a tiger on it or something like that.
Don’t forget those expensive Ed Hardy shirts with skulls and stuff on them.

Strange make up almost Mimi like
I’m not sure what this particular tend was called, but whenever I saw girls with outrageous colored eye shadow I thought about Mimi.

Filigree
At first I didn’t know what this pattern was called. I see it everywhere especially on shirts. I don’t really like it.

Nostalgia tees
These aren’t a new concept or anything, but now new designs are appearing that feature 90s characters like the Rugrats, Power Rangers and Animaniacs characters.

Ruffley skirts
Short or long they were in style. I guess this went along with the Bohemian look.
Chucks
These were popular pretty much for the whole decade. They come in all colors, patterns and combinations. I’ll admit I have a few pairs. They are pretty classic and go with a lot of different outfits.

Rubber charity bracelets
Mostly they are for a good cause. Like cancer, autism, AIDS, or child abuse. Then they became trendy and said pretty much anything on them like “Rey 619”, “I love soccer” or even “Brat".

I Haven't Got a Hat

I think I'm most fully recovered from my illness since I caught myself binge eating yesterday.

I've been in a shit mood funk today. Then I got really depressed when I realized I've been living where I live for almost a year now.

Also since Halloween is over I got some ideas for costumes. I've even started some preliminary sketches. Of course most of my costume ideas never get past that point. None of these current designs are slutty ones.

I was thinking about an evil doll. I got the idea from this costume, but I would make mine different. A little like this costume too, but not as slutty.
What about some type of ghost maid? I really like this costume, and I think I could make my own version of it. Although I don't like the hat. I'd wear more of like a Loli headband thing. I think I could even alter the design to make it look like that little hat/headpiece they wear with their cafe outfits in Tokyo Mew Mew; to compliment my Lettuce hair.
I also like this nun costume. I like the idea of an evil/deranged nun.
What about something that is not scary? Strawberry Shortcake. Not just any version the 90s version. That is probably the least known of all the versions/incarnations. The 90s one is very dear to my heart. I also like her because of all the incarnations this one doesn't wear a hat for some reason.
The 1980s version wears a hat.
The early 2000s version wears a hat. So does the grown up version of her. The newest version does too. That makes the costume so much more easier to make. It sort of made me think about this article. Actually her outfit is reminiscent of the Berrykins dolls of the 80s. But there are 3 other 90s versions of Strawberry Shortcake. If you would like more information on the 90s dolls please go here.

Speaking of Halloween did you see Gwen's Halloween costume? It was cute and western. Gwen looks good with yarn hair as Jessie. But I still like her egg costume from last year better. I think I like her fairy costume best.
